D&D Sessions – Lost Mine of Phandelver Episode 7 The Fall of King Grol

18 Flamerule – 1490 – Year of the Star Walker’s Return

At the end of episode 6 we left our heroes outside a door in a darkened hallway on Cragmaw Castle, having just dispatched some goblins. Ragnar heard something from behind the door that sounded like deep guttural voices whispering in a goblinoid tongue. Small Tec moved forward and deftly picked the lock of the door while, at the same time, Tristan the Barbarian pulled aside the curtain hiding whatever lay beyond the south of this L-shaped hall.

Immediately upon peeking through the curtain, Tristan saw a room being used as barracks, empty save for what he later claimed was a female drow elf. The elf smirked at him, and wrenched open another door at the opposite end of the room. She did not go through the door, however, but disappeared over a pile of rubble demarking a partially collapsed stretch of wall. From within the darkness beyond the door there was sudden animalistic screeching sound that echoed loudly through the room and up the hall.

18 Flamerule – 1490 – Year of the Star Walker’s Return

The heroes scouted around the castle, deciding to push in through an opening in the north wall. Jortran took the shape of a rat to see what lay ahead, and spied a strange tentacle creature hiding in the dark of one chamber before returning to the crumbling wall where he entered and he was joined by his friends before he reverted to his normal form.

15-18 Flamerule – 1490 – Year of the Star Walker’s Return

The heroes managed to rouse one of the two captured goblins, and after some intimidation, Malfred cast Charm Person and befriended the foul creature. They learned that its name was Butn, and in its friendly state it gladly offered to give the party the directions to Cragmaw Castle. Butn told them that there was a path from Cragmaw Hideout that bent North East to the southern tip of the Neverwinter Wood, and there they would find Cragmaw Castle. Butn also warned them to stay away from the old Giant ruins along the way.

15 Flamerule – 1490 – Year of the Star Walker’s Return
The morning after their uneventful long rest, the party with Sildar completed their journey to the small town of Phandalin, delivering the cart of provisions to Elmar Barthen, and collecting their pay. Barthen was very upset to hear about his friend Gundren, and practically begged the party to find Gundren, for the good of the town.

The battle in Klarg’s chamber continued as the wolves from the room below rumbled in to the room. The heroes stood fast in the doorway to hold them back, hacking at the beasts.
